Lenovo's 2025 ThinkPads with AMD CPUs are limited to the eight core versions of Zen5 - at least until now. A product listing on Lenovo's Malaysian website suggests that we may soon see the first AMD ThinkPad with twelve CPU cores in the form of the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD, as it is said to feature the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370.

Lenovo has announced several 2025 ThinkPads with AMD CPUs thus far - all of them in the office segment, and none of them feature the more powerful AMD Ryzen CPUs. Up until mid April, we have seen the following Zen5 models:
- Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 AMD: Strix Point (Ryzen AI 7 Pro 360) & Krackan Point, up to eight cores
- Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD: Krackan Point, up to eight cores
- Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 AMD: Krackan Point, up to eight cores
- Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 6 AMD: Krackan Point, up to eight cores
What they all have in common is the limitation to eight cores. Zen5 is more efficient than Zen4, but the performance gains on the eight core versions are small to non-existent, which is also due to the fact that Zen5 CPUs use a combination of big and small cores, while the eight core versions of Zen4 were big cores all-around. Seeing how exciting the performance gains of the 12 core versions of Zen5 like the Ryzen AI 9 365, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 are, this makes the new AMD ThinkPad laptops less exciting than they could be.
This however is about to change: As Lenovo gears up to launch their new 2025 ThinkPad P series workstation lineup, the first details about the upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD have been leaked - in this case, by Lenovo Malaysia, as the product page for this model went online prematurely.
The key feature of this model, which is based on the design of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 AMD (available on Amazon) and ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD: It will be available with the Strix Point AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 with twelve cores. Otherwise, it seems to be identical to the T14 Gen 6 AMD specification wise.
One more interesting piece of information buried in the spec sheet: The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s G6 AMD will be offered with up to 96 GB DDR5-5600 RAM. However, this is only true for the Krackan Point versions that feature the AMD Ryzen AI 5 Pro 340 and AMD Ryzen AI 7 Pro 350. This in turn suggests that the Strix Point versions might be limited to soldered memory, with a probable limit of 64 GB.
The listing just says that the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD will be "available soon". Seeing as the ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD will likely not come out before May/June, we would not expect its workstation variant to enter the market any sooner.
